About Us

We’re CommunityWise!

CommunityWise is a nonprofit hub that, for 40 years, has existed to support and strengthen diverse grassroots groups and nonprofit organizations through our central location in the historic Old YWCA Building. We provide affordable office and community space, backbone infrastructure (shared internet, mailboxes, office equipment), and collaborative capacity-building programming to 90 member organizations. We also engage in a wide array of community and nonprofit sector development work with a focus on anti-racism and equity.

We are located at 223 – 12th Avenue SW, in the heart of Calgary’s Beltline.

Accessibility Info

There is a ramp available to the main entrance, as well as a series of stairs and a handrail on both sides.  The main floor (including our main kitchen, common room, and bathroom) remains the only wheelchair accessible floor. Members needing accessible main floor event/program space are given special consideration. Bathrooms are gender neutral and there is a wheelchair accessible stall

Getting here: TRANSPORTATION

BUS: Please visit Calgary Transit for the most up-to-date information. Buses stop at various points along 12th Avenue and along 1st Street. The C-train and many bus routes arrive on 1st Avenue and 7th Street SW which is a 5 block walk to CommunityWise. The Stampede/Victoria Park C-Train station is also a 6 block walk.

BIKE: 12th Ave is a part of the Calgary Cycle Track Network offering safer bike route access to our centre.  We have many metal bike parking rails on the sidewalk and next to the driveway in front of the building. If you need more secure parking for your bike during business hours you can ask admin staff to help find a spot in the backyard.

PARKING: Parking downtown can be a challenge. There is paid street parking on 12th Avenue and on nearby streets (no parking on 12th Avenue during rush hour 7:00-8:30 and 15:30-18:00). Street parking is free after 6 pm Monday – Saturday and free all day on Sundays. There is also an accessibility parking spot located directly in front of our building.

  1. Our charity, Freedom’s Path Recovery Society is looking for rental space and would love to be connected with yout group. My name is David Lewry and I am the executive director. The space we are looking for is an office/board room for one on one counselling and potentially group workshops. Thank you for the work you are doing and for your consideration. Our website is http://www.freedomspathrecoverysociety.ca and it is in need of a serious update now that we are no longer renting space in a church, but it does tell a bit about who we are.
