CommunityWise Members Memo
1. Farewell to Dheny!
Dheny Rivas spent the past nine weeks leading our 2015 Member Survey project as a CommunityWise summer student through the Canada Summer Jobs program. She finished up her position with us last Friday. The time has gone by way too quickly! We are very grateful to Dheny for all of her fantastic work and for the connections she was able to make with members. The building will miss her.
2. Front yard construction update
This streetscape redevelopment is beginning to take shape as brick tile and “river” walkway installation continues. Starting the first week in September a NEW ACCESS ROUTE to CommunityWise will be made. Please use the 12th Avenue sidewalk coming from 1st Street SW and enter the building from our wheelchair access ramp. There will be new signage to help direct people to our building.
3. Garbage bin relocation
Early in September the garbage bin will be temporarily relocated to the Hop in Brew pub parking lot (east of CommunityWise beside the Beltline Fitness Centre). Should you need assistance in bringing waste to the bin please let CommunityWise staff know. We apologize for the inconvenience. The bin is scheduled to be returned to the front driveway towards the end of the month once the front yard project nears completion.
4. There’s still time to complete the 2015 Member Survey!
If someone from your organization hasn’t yet filled out the Member Survey, we’d still really like to hear from you (only one survey needs to be completed per organization). Not only will survey results inform future CommunityWise planning, the survey also serves as a way for us to get up-to-date contact and building fob access information from all of our member organizations. If you need the survey link re-sent, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. A huge thank you to the 40 organizations who completed the survey over the summer! Stay tuned for a report that will be made available to members.
5. Welcome to Tigist!
Tigist Workineh is a University of Calgary social work student who will begin a practicum with CommunityWise on September 8. Say hello when you can! Tigist’s practicum will involve some work with member groups, so please get in touch with Erin at email@example.com if you have some possible small project ideas!
6. Emergency first aid training course at CommunityWise on September 13, 9am-5pm
CommunityWise and Equinox Vigil are hosting an Emergency First Aid training through Alberta Health and Safety in the Common Room on September 13. Included are airway, breathing and circulation for adults, infants, and children; bleeding; shock; and secondary assessment. Certificates are valid for three years.
