March 2015

1. CommunityWise casino fundraiser is May 15/16 – many volunteers needed!

Volunteers are needed for all positions for our casino fundraiser on May 15 & 16 at Cowboys Casino. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and funds raised go toward keeping our building operating and ensuring that our 100+ members can continue to access affordable space. This is one way that members can fulfill their annual volunteer contributions to CommunityWise. Please contact erin@communitywise.net or visit the CommunityWise admin office to sign up!

2. Room 207 now available as a relaxation space and for evening bookings

Room 207 on the second floor of the building is now available for evening bookings ($10). The room is also available on a drop-in basis during the day at no charge for those looking for a quiet place to relax. Practicum students Leticia and Josh have worked hard to transform this space and are currently seeking input into the naming of the room. Check out their “dotocracy” in the main lobby and in room 207 to participate!

3. Cycle tracks installation

In a couple weeks the new Cycle Tracks network will begin to be installed. A dedicated and separated bike lane will be created along 12th Avenue. Once complete, paid parking along the south side of 12th Avenue, including the handicap parking spot and including the area in front of CommunityWise, will be eliminated. Non rush hour parking will be available on the north side of the street. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this project CommunityWise encourages you to contact 311, reach out to our ward councillor Evan Woolley at ward08@calgary.ca, or speak with CommunityWise staff.

4. No parking in front of the dumpster on Saturday mornings please

The new garbage pick-up time is Saturday morning which means that there can be no parking on the parking pad on Saturday mornings to allow for dumpster truck access.

5. Please leave a note when parking on the parking pad

Members parking their vehicles in the parking pad are reminded to please leave their phone contact information on their dashboards. Drivers must be prepared to move their vehicle for others to get out at any time.
